Sam’s Chowder House in Half Moon Bay

Sam’s Chowder House in Half Moon Bay is one of my absolute favorite coastal designations and one dear to my heart. My father, a professional Chef, would take me here on his days off as far as I can remember. The older I got, our lunches would include a spell at the bar with a martini and Campari. It is one of my favorite memories. We always had a heaping bowl of Clam Chowder – one of the best around – the salad Nicoise if we could get it and ended out father-daughter date with a slice of Key Lime Pie. My father was known world wide for his cuisine and his love of Sam’s Chowder House stands the test of time. I now return each year for Dia de Los Muertos to enjoy a bowl of soup and a martini and think of my dad and take mom their too – then stroll on the beach and enjoy our amazing coast.

The views in and outside are amazing, the staff is kind and patient, as they are always busy. It’s worth the wait. Their food is well prepared and worth a stop anytime you’re on the Coast.

Romolo’s Cannoli in San Mateo

OMG! This is the best cannoli in the Bay Area. Hands down. If you know a better cannoli – call me – we should have a cannoli taste-off! They also have amazing, homemade ice cream and more! This is a family owned ice cream / cannoli factory – it’s been here since I was a kid and I hope it is there for years to come. Please go enjoy!

Canyon Inn, Emerald Hills Redwood City

Now this place is a staple of the community. My family has enjoyed burgers from Canyon for ages. Their Canyon Burger is hard to beat. Lately, my pops and I have found we’re both alone at dinner on Tuesday’s – so we’re heading over for some burgers, beers and bonding time at the Canyon Inn. Great for large groups, kids and friends. Another wonderful restaurant tucked in the Emerald Hills.

Amazing Wok – In San Carlos

My hubby and I have enjoyed Amazing Wok since we started dating in 1998. The place has changed a lot over the years and when the original owners sold it – we were a bit worried our favorite Chinese Food spot would change. I am happy to report – Amazing Wok is still as delicious as ever. Their potstickers are so good. We enjoy popping over for lunch and the addition of a small salad was a nice surprise. We’ve tried about every dish and they are all so delicious. We head over when we want something spicy and savory and they serve it up hot and with a smile. THANK YOU for keeping a good thing going!

Bubble & Wrap Waffle, Redwood City

I love ice cream – I love waffles. No wonder hubby made sure our date stopped at Bubble Wrap and Waffle on Broadway in Redwood City. We had the s’mores and dreams. The waffle is delicious – great batter, soft and crispy. We need to come back and taste their savory menu. It was delicious – I wanted more ice cream. Worth a stop for a sweet treat!

Sancho’s Taqueria, Emerald Hills Redwood City

Sancho’s is one of my favorite Mexican Restaurants. Fresh Mexican food. I am now addicted to their Chopped Chicken Salad. Corn, black beans, fresh cheese, chicken, avocado with a great ranch dressing – makes my mouth water and is protein rich. My husband always gets a burrito and when I’m the Realtor on the go – I pop in for two tacos. All the meats are fantastic, veggies fresh – friendly people with great food; a wonderful addition to the community.

Apple Fritter – San Mateo

My hubby and I are always on the quest for amazing breakfast joints. Apple Fritter is no secret even if they are tucked under the 92. Their doughnuts make my mouth water. Their menu is fun and delicious – a combination of naughty and nice. I’ve been here several names and never manage to snap a photo because I have to jump in – except for this one time – the stuffed french toast was to die for. Worth every calorie. Highly recommended.

Copenhagen Bakery & Cafe – Burlingame Ca

My family have been going to Copenhagen Bakery & Cafe for over 5 decades. They’ve taken care of my birthday cake for just about as many years and Copenhagen Bakery did our wedding cake too. If that isn’t testimonial enough – then you truly need to go taste it for yourself. The photo is of their Princess Cake that my darling mother gets me for each birthday. Marzipan, raspberry, custard, whipped cream – a literal slice of heaven!

TOWN, SAN CARLOS

Town forever changed the landscape of downtown San Carlos. Truly elevated Laurel Street and opened the door for so many great restaurants. I have not had a dish at Town that I didn’t love. My own complaint – I’ve never managed to snap a pix for Real Eats my food / Real Estate blog! The filet, the potato dish of my dreams, terrific drinks and apps. I did mange to snap the perfect Martini. Wonderful place to celebrate a wedding anniversary or birthday and the perfect excuse for brunch or lunch with friends. Town, at the heart of San Carlos!

Speederia Pizzeria – Emerald Hills, Redwood City

As a Realtor on the go my go-to lunch spot is Speederia Pizzeria. Located off Jefferson Ave, between Alameda/Edgewood Road – the bottom of Emerald Hills Redwood City – it is literaly at the hub of my day. To top it off – they have the best, thin crust pizza in the Bay Area. Even when I’m not in-between Realtor appointments – my husband and I will pop over for a quick and delicious lunch date for their Pizza Special – Two Slices & a Drink. I’m addicted to their Whitestone (pictured) and their Brooklyn or Pig Apple. Hubs, goes for the Pig Apple, Pepperoni, or the perfect cheese. Enjoy!

The Refuge – 963 Laurel Street, San Carlos

I chose The Refuge becuase it is close to my heart. The building was my former Karate DoJo. Oh the memories of testing for belts in the same space I am now sipping a beer and enjoying a fine sandwich – is a riot. I love watching communities grow, how buildings change and repurposed. Anyway – let’s get to the food!

When I first discovered that a restaurant in my favorite town – San Carlos – was featured on Diners-Drive-Ins-and-Dives – I was so excited. When I saw the episode, my husband and I couldn’t wait to head down there. Let me tell you – we were not disappointed. On our first visit, hubby got the Ruben and I got the Toasted Slaw #19. Oh boy! The moment that plate hit the table, it smelled so good, I knew I was in for a treat. The bread was perfectly toasted, the sauerkraut on the Reuben and the Slaw on mine were well seasoned. Good cheese, great flavor… But the meat – the House Made pastrami – the lacquer – was spectacular! I am drooling just thinking about it. Needless to say – we’ve returned several times and enjoyed bringing new people to appreciate their treats. I even tried the grilled Cambozola Sandwich. Good Lord, the gooey blue cheese with caramelized onions, matched with the apple and lemon-tomato marmalade. Heaven. Delicious Heaven. Oh it comes with a salad too. And a side of guilt for eating something so decadent – hahah – but worth every bite!

I managed to snap two photos in my numerous visits. Seriously – the food is that good I forgot I want to take a picture; the camera doesn’t stand a change against my hunger. Oh, they also have a plethora of awesome beers from around the world. So truly a treat for every single one of your taste buds.

Cuisinett – San Carlos

Hello! Thank you for reading REAL EATS – my food and Real Estate blog! Our next adventure is ….Cuisinett in San Carlos. A delicious treat, one of my favorites for date night. Below are snaps of our dishes – the seasonal roasted vegetables have made it into our own kitchen rotation.

I also love bringing my mom here for lunch. We get a sensible lunch and then go nuts over dessert. You know, you only live once…

Sara’s Kitchen – Santa Clara / San Jose

We found ourselves in Santa Clara Coutny early in the day and Sara’s Kitchen was exactly what we were looking for. Breakfast! Though busy, we got a table and a great meal. My husband said it was the best corned beef hash he’s had in a long time. I throughly enjoyed my french toast with fresh fruit. The coffee was great! Friendly service. Wonderful food. Worth the wait!

We’ve come here a few times for family anniversary’s and birthday’s. The food and drinks are always amazing. Some dishes are better than others. The specially are usually spot on. They make a mean martini and when we brought our folks here for their wedding anniversary – the hosts went above and beyond to make our night memorable.

Bravas – Bar de Tapas – 420 Center Street, Healdsburg, Ca

For my next entry – I ventured away from the Bay Area. And I hope you do too! My husband and I were enjoying the Wine Country for a little get-a-way and house hunting when we came upon Bravas. We used Yelp to help us narrow down the search close to our hotel. There were so many choices but for some reason I was drawn to Bravas. With a click we made a reservation and little did I know the experience would last me a lifetime.

I love tapas, little plates of goodness and a nice cocktail. Well, Bravas offered this and so much more. Nestled in a craftsman home converted into this restaurant – I instantly loved the décor and mixed home and bar feel. It was like hanging out in your friends really cool home. With a bar at the center, an awesome remodel of modern mixed with rustic. I truly enjoyed it the moment we walked in.

Where to begin! We started with sliders – the Duck Boccadillo (meatball) and Pork Cheek Bocca. Wow! The duck was tender and well seasoned. The savory sauce it was serviced with, tomato sofrito and green olive purée was excellent. The pork cheek was a new experience for me – I’d never had it before. Wonderful portion of pork cheek, dripping with flavor and served salsa verde and pequillo pepper.

Next we had the Creamy Chicken, Ham & Gruyere Cheese Croquetas. Oh My God. Little bites of fried heaven. I really cannot say enough. We savored these! Then we had a little vegetable intermission – the grilled Asparagus served with aioli and sprinkled with cheese.

On to the Skirt Steak, served with red onion marmalade and valdeón cheese – was a delicious! I truly enjoyed the marmalade; it was a nice surprise, meat cooked perfectly. And then, we had the Octopus! This by far was my most favorite dish in taste and presentation. Served with smoked paprika and olives was amazing. The seasoning spot on and the Octopus grilled perfectly!

And when we didn’t think we had any more room – we had to try the Cider Braised Chorizo served with fried Shishito Peppers. What a delight. The peppers were fresh and crispy, the chorizo had a good spice!

Now doesn’t that sound delicious! We coupled our dinner with Mojitos, laughter and good fun. One of my best nights with my man! A wonderful food experience! So if you find yourself in Healdsburg – make sure to detour over to Bravas!

Nothing Bundt Cakes, San Carlos

We’ve popped into Nothing Bundt Cakes a few times, for birthday cakes or a box of cupcakes. Wonderful, rich cake and decadent yet bright frosting. We’ll have to get another box to decide which combo we like best.

Estampas Peruanas Restaurant – In Redwood City

Friends took us to Estampas for the first time and I was floored by all the delicious food. I’ve returned several times to try new dishes. The soup, the meat, the plantains – each dish is unique and delicious. The staff is friendly and kind as well – a must stop on the peninsula. Some of my and my friends favorite dishes are: The Ceviche de Pescado or Mixto, pictured was my last entree Bistek a lo Pobre – WOW! I loved it! The first time I went there I had the Saltado de Pollo and I was hooked – food served with french fries incorporated into the meal made my day – maybe life at high altitudes has it perks. Spare the hike and visit Estampas at Sea Level and enjoy Peruvian cuisine in your own back yard.
